Map Feature in Flickr

I was playing around in Flickr and there is a great new feature. Once logged in, click on "organize" and in the upper right there is a Maps tab. Click on it and you can zero in on a specific place and drag and drop pictures on a map. To try it out I dragged and dropped pictures of my brother and his daughters onto a map of Belleair where I live.
Maniac Magee takes place outside of Philadelphia. Kids could create a story, dress up, use the Flip camera to make a video and drop it onto a map of Philadelphia.
As an icebreaker at the beginning of the year, kids who have digital pictures of their vacations could take turns and upload them onto my computer and then place them on their vacation spot on the map. The class map would be fun to explore!

I posted a short tutorial on this tool under Great Ideas to the left.
It's easy! Yeah!

  1. I'm glad you posted this. I wasn't able to figure out the maps application easily, but now that I know what you were able to do with it, I'll go back and have a look!

  2. Great to see you reading each other's posts. I actually commented on this last night but it's in cyberspace somewhere. Mary, I like your new design. Your illustrations add a new dimension. This looks more professional than the other did IMHO. Thanks for the map feature and for helping others with it (I'm guessing NF and PA and TH) and it does give good options. I wondered if you could use it for "sights along the trail" or something. The time you spent on this is so impressive. Thumbs up for this one. BTW, you can watch Tammy's NECC presentation here. http://moourl.com/hpw7m

  3. You are such a superstar! I love how you keep posting cool things to try. I'll be honest - I haven't tried most of them since Sandy has kept us so busy. :) BUT I did just watch the maps tutorial, and I love it. How often are the kids coming up and asking if they can look something from their reading up on google maps? It would be great to give them some idea of where the heck these books are taking place. Thanks for the awesome idea!
