Golf was canceled this morning so I decided to do the easy part of our first assignment...write a definition of Web 2.0. It's two and a half hours later and I haven't written a single word, but now I think I have it.
The World Wide Web (Web 1.0)was about connecting computers from all over the place to publish content and I, the user, would sit passively and read and look at pictures.
Web 2.0 is about connecting people via computers. We collaborate and share information and resources.
Five years ago had I gone to Google and typed in Sam Snead and the Golf Swing I would have been led to various web sites where I would read about his theories and see a couple of pictures. With Web 2.0 I find U tube videos where I can stand up with my golf club in hand and try and imitate Snead's swing, participate in blogs where I can discuss his ideas with friends in Delaware, Georgia and California and then upload a video of my own golf swing to my blog and then invite these same golf buddies to take a look at my swing and comment on it . I suppose I could superimpose my swing and put it next to Morgan Pressel's and have a Podcast which would go out to my brother who would write on my blog exactly how and why I should give up the game. Here is a video that Judy suggested we view!

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteYou have a very good analogy and examples for contrasting Web 1 and 2. I am glad you checked out the video. There is so much out there about digital natives that it is mind blowing. Glad you figured out how to repost something.
